293 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PACEY, John William John was born on October 17, 1923 in Hamilton, Ontario, and was raised, educated and employed in Windsor. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942, serving in the Navy. Following training in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was deployed to engage with the Japanese during World War II. Fortunate enough, the Americans dropped the bomb on Japan before their ship arrived. He retired from the service as an Able Seaman reporting home to his wife, Frances, and daughters, Penilou and Susan. He retired from the Windsor Fire Services as District Chief, enjoying golf, gardening and helpful hands at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 188 in Kingsville, Ontario where he was a member for 35 years. John passed away in December 2019. PARLE, Kevin Kevin was born on May 5, 1955, in Montréal, Quebec. On October 10, 1971, he joined the 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, in the Primary Reserves. He later transferred to the Regular Force artillery, serving with the 3rd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (3 RCHA), and the 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada (5 RALC). After numerous exercises in the field where the call of the Air Force recruiters was heard every time ‘fast air’ or a helicopter passed overseas, Kevin transferred to the Air Force as a Photographic Technician. He completed a NATO tour in Lahr, Germany, as well as peacekeeping tours with UNEF II in the Sinai, UNFICYP in Cyprus as well as courses in the USA. He had been posted to Shilo, Manitoba; Valcartier, Quebec; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and twice in Borden, Ontario. Upon reaching compulsory retirement age, he transferred to the Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Services (COATS). On December 1, 2017, fifty years after he had first joined the Air Cadets, Kevin retired. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 87 in Kirkland Lake for five years. PALMER-DELLOW, James Allan James was born in Brussels, Ontario on November 25, 1918. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) inApril 1940, at the age of 22 in Hamilton and sent overseas only four months later. He was assigned to the Royal CanadianArmy Service Corp, part of the Canadian Active Service Force, and was a driver for delivering supplies including food, ammunition, petrol and sometimes troops to the front lines. He attained the rank of Lance/Corporal. Discharged on October 27, 1945, James received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Returning to Brussels he worked for Samis Produce and then went to London to work at GM Diesel. He later became employed by the Department of Transportation and conducted Driver Examinations in London. He returned to Brussels and worked out of Stratford and Listowel doing the same job. He built a home in Brussels and was married and had one daughter. He was going to retire at the age of 55 and unfortunately, he passed away on June 18, 1973, three months prior to his retirement. He had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 for 27 years.
