289 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NICHOLL, Edward Graham “Teddy” FollowingWorldWar I, Teddy’s parents, Albert and Norah, left their home in Bermuda to live in England. He was born in Chertsey, England on February 19, 1919. When Teddy was three years old, his parents and his younger sister moved back to Bermuda. Teddy’s primary and secondary school education was in Bermuda with additional education at Rothsay Business College in Nova Scotia. In 1940, he went to England and joined the RAF. While flying hurricanes in North Africa, he was shot down over the desert. He walked back to his squadron which awarded him the Silver Boot and membership in the late arrivals club. He was later shot down over the Mediterranean and suffered serious injuries. He earned the DFC for his accomplishments in North Africa. He also flew many photo reconnaissance flights over the Mediterranean area and Europe. On D-Day, he was flying with the high reconnaissance unit in a camera equipped Spitfire over D-Day Landings. Teddy married Margaret Johnston in January 1945. He returned to Bermuda with Margaret and baby daughter Sandra in the spring of 1946. A son, John, followed in 1949. He resided in Toronto in 1950. Teddy died in 1999 at the age of eighty, and Margaret died in 2008. NORTON, William “Bud” William, also known as Bud, was born in Uxbridge, Ontario on December 12, 1915, into a large family having over a dozen siblings. He was raised and lived in Coppins Corners, Ontario. Bud and three of his brothers served overseas in World War II, serving his country in the Army (Regular Force). He enlisted in 1943 and was discharged in 1945. Upon his return home, he worked for the Township of Pickering operating heavy machinery and raised a family. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Claremont Branch 483 and spent a great deal of time volunteering his services to help the Branch and other Legion members. Bud was part of the group that constructed the main floor of the Legion and also spent time as the Sgt. at Arms. Bud passed away in 1969. NORRIS, Herbert George Herbert was born on June 11, 1931, in Kingston, Ontario. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (Army) in November 1950 in Kingston and began his training to be a Linesman. Approximately one year later, he served in Korea with Delta Company of the 3rd Royal Canadian Regiment. His other postings include Winnipeg, MB; Royal Canadian Signal Corps in Kingston; Gagetown, NB and Petawawa, ON. His medals include the Canadian Korea Medal, CanadianVolunteer Service Medal for Korea, United Nations Service Medal Korea, Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. After being honourably discharged in November 1970 at the rank of Master Corporal, Herbert worked at Canadian Forces Base in Kingston, ON as a civilian supply technician. He passed away on December 29, 2011, at the age of 80. His son Rev. David Norris also served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
