281 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILNE, John McCartney John was born on September 8, 1895 in West Garafraxa Township, Ontario. He was farming when he was drafted into service in May 1918 and then went to England. He served with the 1st Depot Battalion Western Ontario Regiment during World War I. Upon his release from service, he returned to Wellington County where he married, raised his daughters, and farmed. John passed away on December 30, 1989. MISSEN, Henry “Harry” Henry “Harry” Missen was born in Woolwich, London, England, on January 6, 1902, the son of William Henry and Evelina Charlotte (Lord) Missen. Henry was the second youngest of five brothers and one sister. On February 28, 1917, Henry followed his father and older brother into service by overstating his age by one year and enlisting in the Army (Regular Force) with 122nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Bracebridge, Ontario. He shipped out of Halifax on May 28, 1917, on board the SS Olympic, arriving in England on June 9. On June 20, Private Henry Missen reported to Base Depot, Canadian Forestry Corps, in Sunningdale, England and subsequently, on July 10, was sent to the 49th Company, CFC in France. He served with the unit until February 15, 1919, when he returned to Sunningdale to prepare for demobilization. He returned to Canada and was discharged on April 1, 1919, in Toronto. Henry remained in Toronto where he and his wife Annie May Watkins had three sons and two daughters. He passed away at the age of 62, on December 22, 1964, and is buried at Pine Hills Cemetery in Toronto. MILROY, Leslie Eugene Leslie was born in Markham, Ontario on July 15, 1917. He proudly served his country of Canada in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during World War II from May 10, 1943, to July 9, 1946, while stationed in Niagara. Being trained as a Mechanic while in the Army, he further spent his career with General Motors working at Hogan Pontiac Buick until retirement. As well as being a proud member of the Canadian Army, Corporal Leslie E. Milroy was married to Margaret E. Milroy (Quinn), and father to their four children. Leslie passed away on April 4, 1999.
