279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McNALLY, Wilbert Angus Wilbert was born on June 12, 1886, to William H. and Norma (McDonald) McNally in the hamlet of Glamis, Bruce County, Ontario. Prior to enlisting in the Army, Wilbert was a farmer. He enlisted in the Army in Tiverton, Ontario in April 1916 and was assigned to the 160th Overseas Battalion and went to London, Ontario for training. During a medical examination, it was determined that Wilbert had an eye condition as well as dislocated toes in both feet. His feet were very painful and resulted in amputation of some toes. This rendered him medically unfit for service overseas. He was discharged in London, Ontario on November 30, 1917. Returning to Glamis, Wilbert was employed in the parts department at a machine shop owned by JackWrightson. Wilbert suffered a stroke and passed away in 1961. He is buried in Purdy’s cemetery. MILLER, Charles Randal Charles was born in Colborne, Ontario on December 14, 1919. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in 1941 and took basic training in Vimy and Kingston. He served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in Central Mediterranean during WorldWar II until his discharge in 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105. Charles passed away in March 2005. McNEIL, James Colin James was born in Walton, Ontario on October 4, 1910. He was a Licensed Truck Driver, hauling cattle and lumber in 1938 around Belmore, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular) in 1940 and hauled lumber for Port Albert Airport. He was stationed in Trenton, Saskatoon, Bad Axe, Michigan and Wyoming County. LAC McNeil’s duties included removal of crashed war planes, inspect and disassemble and transport back to other bases. He was a member of the #4 S.F.T.S. Crash Tender Inspection Team in Saskatoon in 1942. He was part of the crew assigned to assemble a war plane at the Toronto Court house as part of the effort to sell war bonds. Discharged in 1946 as a licensed mechanic he began his own business, McNeil’s Shell Garage in Brussels, Ontario and sold cars as well. James retired in 1979 and died in 1991. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 for 45 years.
