275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McINTOSH, Herbert Herman Herbert was born in Brussels, Ontario on December 3, 1894. He enlisted in the Army on November 3, 1917 and served with the 2nd Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps on the Western Front during World War I. He was discharged on May 25, 1919. He was a resident of Timmins, Ontario from 1919 until his death on April 24, 1941. McKEEMAN, Clyde Clyde was the son of William John and Margaret (Hendry) McKeeman, born on March 22, 1897 in the hamlet of Glamis, Bruce County, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on January 4, 1916 in Tiverton, Ontario and was attached to the 160th Bruce Battalion then to the #2 Troop Divisional Cyclist Depot. Clyde was sent to Camp Borden for training. While on furlough in May 1916, Clyde was cranking up his automobile and the engine backfired throwing him ten feet resulting in a broken arm and his wrist being pulled out of joint. A further medical issue with his heart developed which made him medically unfit for service and on September 28, 1917, Clyde was discharged. McKAY, Wilfred Laurier Wilfred was born in Glamis, Bruce County, Ontario on July 18, 1887. His parents were John L. and Christina (Currie) McKay. He enlisted in Walkerton on August 9, 1916. He had been living in Port Arthur, Ontario and had already been involved in the service with 32nd Bruce Regiment for two years, the 48th Highlanders for six months and a year with the Woodstock cadets, and six months CCTC in Toronto. Initially attached to the 160th Battalion, Wilfred sailed for England on the SS Metagamaon October 17, 1916 and deployed with the 1st Battalion as Lieutenant. During the course of his service in England, Wilfred reported having a hearing problem and tinnitus which was documented in his military records. He was promoted to Captain and was sent to France with the 1st Battalion in early 1918. Wilfred was wounded in April in the leg and returned to England for hospitalization. He was discharged from the military on April 25, 1919. Wilfred returned to Toronto and married Olive Beatrice Crowley in 1924. They moved to Greenock, Ontario to raise three children. At some point he moved to Victoria, BC and passed away at the age of 65 on February 17, 1953.
