271 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCARTY, Elmer James Robert Elmer was born on February 14, 1897 in Richards Landing, a small community on St. Joseph Island east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to John and Margaret McCarty. On his attestment paper, he stated that he was a farmer. He enrolled in the 119th Overseas Bat. on December 30, 1915. While in training in Niagara, he caught the measles. Elmer was transferred overseas and arrived in England on August 19, 1916. He was enrolled in the 52 Bat. (New Ontario Regt.) on December 6, 1916. While engaged in combat near Arras, France, his legs were blown off. Elmer died of his wounds on April 5, 1917. He is buried nearby in the Ecoivres Military Cemetery, France and his name is inscribed on the Hilton Beach cenotaph. McDERMID, Neil Neil was born on August 5, 1894 in Glamis, Ontario. He was the son of Angus and Christine McDermid who lived in Greenock Plan 281 Lot 17. Neil enlisted in the Army in Tiverton, Ontario on April 3, 1916 and served with 160 Bruce Battalion at the front in Germany during World War I. McCLINTOCK, Sean Gregory Sean was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on September 16, 1969. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on August 26, 1988 and served with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Kuwait, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Khabul, Afghanistan. Corporal McClintock was among the first Canadian troops in Afghanistan. He received the South-west Asian Medal and the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal. He told his father, “I was just doing my job”. After twenty years in the Armed Forces, he was released on February 2, 2011. He was diagnosed with PTSD five years earlier. Once home, he turned his attention to scuba diving and collecting war time memorabilia. He had an infectious smile and a firm allegiance to family, army brothers and country. Sean passed away on February 2, 2016.
