247 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LILLIE, James C. “Jim” Jim was born in Hamilton, Scotland on April 7, 1926. He joined the Air Force in April 1944 at the age of seventeen but transferred to the Army (Regular Force) a couple of months later. Jim was sent to India where he trained at a Military Academy. Jim served in India, Singapore, Malaysia and Burma. He was discharged in Singapore in March 1948. He was a Commissioned Officer (Captain). Jim moved to Windsor in 1948. He married his wife Dora in 1949 and together they raised one son. Jim worked for the Windsor Utilities for 35 years. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 and was a Life Member. Jim passed away on March 15, 1993. LONGMAN, Britt Haddow Britt was born on April 19, 1912, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His parents were Harry and Margaret Longman. He did active service in the Army as a Rank Trooper during World War II and had the honour to wear a war service badge “General Services Class”. While in the army, he made a good friend named Roger Simson. In June 1942, Britt married Lillian Adams. They bought a farm in Wallace Township in 1951 and years later, they moved to Listowel. Britt and Lillian had three children: Helen, Russell and Jean. He worked at Jackson Car Dealership in Listowel and at Campbell Soup as a security guard. Britt Longman passed away on October 4, 1991 and is buried at the Moleworth Cemetery. LOFTUS, Francis James “Frank” Frank was born in Flos Township near Phelpston, Ontario on April 2, 1911. He enlisted in the Army in Toronto on July 11, 1942. He served during World War II as a Tank Operator in the 22 Canadian Armoured Regiment in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe to liberate Northwest Europe. He was discharged on March 12, 1946. He considered following his interests as radio operator into a radio repair or electrical career. Instead, he returned to his farming roots and bought a farm near Phelpston in 1948 and continued farming until 1959. He joined the Canadian Postal Service and continued his postal career until 1976. One of his fondest memories was the liberation of Holland and the appreciation the Dutch people showed the Canadian Army. He was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Elmvale, Lanark, Perth, and Ottawa for a total of fifty years. Frank passed away on January 10, 1997.
