207 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOBBS, Maxwell Dearden Maxwell Dearden Hobbs was born on April 22, 1925, in Dunnville, Ontario to John Leslie and Ida Elizabeth Hobbs of Toronto. He was educated in North Bay and Pickering. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in the Tank Corps on August 2, 1943, and was able to go to the Royal Canadian Regiment because his brother Leslie was able to sponsor him as he was under age and he would not turn 19 until April 22, 1944. After going overseas, he was transferred to the Infantry. He was with his brother Private Leslie Eugene Hobbs, in Belgium on March 8, 1945, when Leslie sustained serious life altering injuries and Maxwell escaped unharmed. Just 26 days later, Private Maxwell Dearden Hobbs was killed in action in Germany/Holland (some documents say Holland, and some say Germany) on April 4, 1945 and was buried in Holten Canadian War Cemetery in plot 3, row B, grave 1. HODGINS, Gordon Gilbert “Gord” Gord was born on October 22, 1922 in Powassan, Ontario. He joined the Army (Regular Force) on January 13, 1942. He served with the Corps of Engineers. After being released on November 1, 1945, Gord married his wife Noela and they raised four children. He worked for the Chrysler corp as a millwright until his retirement in 1977. In retirement, Gord enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He passed away on May 3, 2003. The Legion of Honour Guard was at his service. Gord was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 in Windsor for over forty years. He was a resident of Windsor from 1946 until his passing. HODGINS, Francis Edward “Frank” Frank was the son of Samuel T. and Emily (Stanley) born on January 1, 1920 in Bruce Township, Ontario. He joined the Army during World War II. Following his discharge, Frank worked at various jobs. He married Ella Grace Hutchings and had a large family. Frank passed away on July 24, 1990 and is buried in the Kincardine cemetery.
