545 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WINN, Frank D. Frank was born on January 9, 1896, in Oldham, England, the son of John and Ester Winn. Frank came to Canada in 1905 as a Home Boy and lived with the George Scott family in Parkhill, Ontario in West McGillivray Township. He married Olive Cole, they lived in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Frank enlisted in the Army on January 6, 1916, joining the 168th Battalion Canadian Infantry. He sailed on the SS Lapland to England in October 1916. Frank served in France in May 1917 and in August he suffered from Shell Shock. Frank sailed back to Canada on the SS Olympic and was discharged inApril 1919. Frank passed away in 1974 and is buried at Eastlawn Cemetery in Hamilton, Ontario. WOOD, Bruce Edward “Bob” Bob was born on March 14, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force on September 30, 1943 and served as a tail gunner with the No. 10 BGS 101 Squadron in England during World War II. He was discharged on September 19, 1945 and received the Operational Wings, 1939-1945 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After the war, Bob became a plasterer and married Marjorie Ellen Grant raising nine children. He operated BobWood & Sons Drywall until his sudden death on October 19, 1988. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385 for thirty years. WINTER (WRIGHT), Edith “Alice” Alice was born on July 24, 1925 in Arnprior, Ontario. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in July 1944 and served until July 1946 in Canada during World War II. In 2014, Alice moved to Port Elgin, Ontario where she has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 340 for five years.
