539 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILLIAMS, Alfred Charles Phillips Alfred was born on June 18, 1892, in Warwick Township, the son of John and Martha Williams. He enlisted in the Army in February 1916 in Arkona, Ontario joining the 149th Battalion. He sailed on the SS Lapland to England. Alfred served in France in March 1918 with the 13th Canadian Regiment Troops. He was discharged in April 1919 returning toWatford where he married Muriel Taylor and raised a family. Alfred passed away on February 25, 1949 and is buried at Woodland Cemetery. WILLS, Frederick Russel Frederick was born on August 10, 1892 in Pinehill, Ontario and resided in Thedford, Ontario. On July 7, 1916, he enlisted in the Army during World War I and served with the 149th Battalion in Canada. He trained at Camp Borden and did one year of volunteer. On October 13, 1938, Fred, his wife, and daughter were killed in a car and train accident and buried at Pinehill Cemetery. WILLIAMS, William Albert William was born on September 23, 1884 inWarwick Township, Lambton County, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on December 4, 1915 and was stationed in London, Ontario and then to Camp Borden before being shipped to Halifax in the Spring of 1917 for transport to England. After training in the camps in England, he was sent to France. William served with the 149th Lambton Battalion and 27th Regiment then later with the 5th Battalion Canadian Pioneers. He was wounded on duty on or about June 16 or 17, 1918 but remained with his unit. He was Transport Officer, partly as a result of his familiarity with horses. Family stories tell of him being wounded by German shell while riding. The horse was killed but he survived. William was discharged on May 19, 1919. He would visit the Veterans Hospital in London, Ontario to visit some of his wounded war comrades. William passed away on January 11, 1961.
