533 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WHITNEY, Charles Daniel “Chuck” Chuck was born on October 18, 1907 in Chesley, Ontario. He enlisted in 1939 with the Army, joining the 98th Anti-tank. Corporal Whitney served in England during World War II. He was discharged in 1945, returned home, and married Grace McIvor from Chesley, Ontario. They had one son, Doug. Chuck drove for Cottens Taxi then worked for Owen Sound P.U.C. He loved getting together with the members at The Royal Canadian Legion Owen Sound Branch 6 on Remembrance Day. Chuck passed away on May 3, 1970 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound. WHITNEY, William Seymour Jr. William was born on October 30, 1919 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on February 12, 1943, serving as a Gunner. William served duringWorld War II in Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe being discharged on September 9, 1946. He married Lilian Hall on July 1, 1939 and they had three children. William received the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. At one time he drove horse and wagon for mail delivery and later worked at Black Clawson Kennedy Foundry. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Owen Sound Branch 6. William passed away on February 4, 1997 and buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery Owen Sound, Ontario. WHITNEY, John Robert “Jack” Jack was born on January 19, 1926 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted onAugust 11, 1944 with the Army during World War II joining the Royal Canadian Artillery and Signal Corp as a Signalman. He served in Canada and was discharged on May 7, 1946. Jack married Fern Vanstone on May 22, 1948 and they had one child, Perry. He worked at RBW for over forty years in Owen Sound. Jack passed away on August 22, 2003 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound.
