507 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND THAMER, George Henry George was born on January 28, 1896, in Milverton, Ontario and moved toWalton, Ontario when he was ten years old. He enlisted in the Army in Brussels, Ontario on January 3, 1916, just after his nineteenth birthday. He joined the 58th Division of the Canadian Infantry- 2nd Central Ontario Regiment. George was known as a happy young man who played his harmonica in the trenches. He fought and survived the Battle of Vimy Ridge, only to be killed by a sniper three months later, on July 1, 1917. He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial. THOMPSON, Allan “Tom” Tom was born on June 27, 1942 in Toronto, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a cook in 1959. Twenty-two ships later, Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Thompson retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1992. During his career, Tom served on the East and West Coast of Canada, spent five years in Kingston, Ontario on recruiting, experienced two tours of duty in Damascus, Syria and served in the Canadian Arctic, the Orient, South America, and the Caribbean. Tom is the recipient of the Canadian Forces’ Decoration of thirtyfive years, Canadian Centennial Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal, 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force Medal, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and Special Service Medal with NATO and Humanitas Bars. A 55-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Tom now lives in Coldwater, Ontario, where he is a member of Coldwater Branch 270. THISTEL, Lindsay Edward Lindsay was born on December 22, 1925 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on January 3, 1944 with the 48th Highlanders. Along with his father, brother, and several extended family members, Lindsay shipped out overseas in World War II at the bright age of nineteen looking for action and adventure. He served in France and Germany until his discharge on May 9, 1946. Lindsay was a family man who worked hard his entire life to provide for his eight children: Linda, Jack, Randy, Debbie, Daryl, Patti, Kelly, and Katy. He was married fifty years to his loving wife Brenda Thistel. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419. Lindsay passed away on September 15, 2018.
