501 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SZABO, Gene Gene was born on April 21, 1947 in Gyor, Hungary. In September 1963, he joined the Governor General’s Foot Guard and served in Canada until 1966. Gene played in the bugle band. He rejoined in 1970 as a Finance Officer with the Ottawa Militia District HQ and seconded to the Ottawa Service Battalion being until his discharge in June 1973. Gene is a 24-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kanata Branch 638. TAYLOR, Benjamin Benjamin Taylor was born in Mount Stephen, near Coldwater, Ontario, on August 30, 1895, the son of James Sloss and Francis Ellen (White) Taylor. On May 26, 1915, he enlisted in the Army at Camp Niagara, Ontario, with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was eighteen years old and single. He listed his trade as lumberjack and had no previous military experience. Private Taylor sailed on RMS Hesperian fromMontreal to England on June 10, 1915. After getting some training in England, he landed in France on July 16, 1915, assigned to the 15th Canadian Infantry Battalion. He was hospitalized as “shell-shocked” in early June 1916, suffered a gunshot wound in the hand three months later, and an additional gunshot wound to the head in August 1918. With the end of the war, he was repatriated to Canada and discharged on March 28, 1919. He predeceased his wife Eva, who passed away in 1991 in Orillia, Ontario. SZIKORA, Wilfred Anthony “Reg” Reg was born on September 11, 1956 in Hamilton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy on October 22, 1974. Reg served on destroyers and frigates and even spent time with the 1st Submarine Squadron but not as a submariner. He was discharged on April 10, 1993. Reg said he loved the Navy. He was able to see the world and in doing so also managed some Peace Keeping. He is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Dunnville Branch 142.
