479 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHOLDICE, William Reginald William was born on December 2, 1893, in Brussels, Ontario. He was the eldest son of Adam and Margaret Sholdice of Walton, Ontario. Although William joined the CEF No. 1 District in Brussels, Ontario on January 22, 1916 he was later assigned to the 161st (Huron) 58th Battalion unit at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario. William arrived in England on November 11, 1916. He served in Canada, Britain, and France being wounded in action on October 29, 1917. He was discharged on March 17, 1919, receiving the BritishWar Medal and Victory Medal. William married Martha McCutcheon on September 16, 1919. After returning from the war William purchased a farm in Morris Township just outside of Walton. William and his wife were Mail Carriers for the Post Office. They had two children Elva and Mack. William had five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 for 48 years. William passed away on November 15, 1967, at the age of 73. SIMMONS, John F. “Jack” Jack was born on April 20, 1921 in Hensall, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in the Atlantic and Pacific campaign. He was discharged in 1945. Upon returning to Canada, he worked at the RCAF Base, Centralia, Department of National Defence from 1951 to 1966. Jack worked as a factory worker and as an electrician in Hensall in later years. He and his wife Betty raised four daughters: Joan, Jackie, Lois and Dale in Hensall where he enjoyed the love of his life – Music. From a banjo to a piano to whatever, he could play it. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Hensall Branch 468 where he was awarded a Life Membership in 1985. He served as Sergeant-at-Arms, President and Executive. Jack passed away on January 29, 2005. SIMCOX, Tobin James Tobin was born in Ottawa, Ontario on July 8, 1983. He enlisted in the Canadian Forces in August 2003, and was posted to 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment in Petawawa in 2004. He was a member of the 1 RCR Battle Group deployed to Kandahar from July 2006 to February 2007. He was part of OP MEDUSA, and in April 2007, was awarded the General Campaign Star for South West Asia. Tobin received the Commander in Chief Unit Commendation in recognition for his participation in one of the largest ground combat operations in the history of NATO. From September 2008 to April 2009, he was deployed to Kandahar for the second time. During this tour, he primarily operated in Panjwayi, training the Afghanistan National Army. Tobin deployed for Kandahar once again in July 2010 as part of 1 RCR Battle Group and served as a Section 2IC in Charles Company at Sperwan Ghar. It was on this third tour Tobin received his two GCS South West Asia rotation bars. Tobin received the Canadian Forces’ Decoration in 2016. As of April 2020, Tobin retired from the Canadian Forces. He is a sixteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Stanley Branch 410.
