411 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PACKHAM, Ronald Ronald was born in Langley, England in 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force Regiment as a gunner in 1941. He served in North Africa and Greece, where he was interred as a Prisoner of War. He received the 1939-1945 Star, African Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. After being discharged in 1946, he and his wife Olive, a WorldWar II veteran, and their son, Richard, moved to Hensall, Ontario in 1985 where he was a butcher by trade. Ronald was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Hensall Branch 468 and passed away on April 4, 2002. PALMER, Ernest Stephen Ernest was born on August 3, 1898 in Thedford, Ontario. On March 12, 1917, he enlisted in the Army with the 64th Depot Battery CFA. Ernest sailed from Halifax on the SS Olympic to South Hampton, England in 1917 and served in England, France, and Canada during World War I. Ernest was discharged on April 28, 1919. PAISLEY, John Robert John was born on August 4, 1915 in Ilderton, Ontario to Fred and Annie (Loft) Paisley. He taught school for six years. Bosanquet #2, one mile south of Thedford, was his first school for three years. He was a popular teacher who enjoyed hockey, softball and rugby. John resigned from teaching and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained at Windsor Mills, Quebec; Moncton, Charlottetown and Halifax. Officers remarked that with steady progress, he would make a useful G.R. Navigator. He had 141 flying hours. John was seventh out of his class of 23. On May 17, 1942, the Hudson Aircraft set out from Norway never to return. Captain John Paisley and his crew were never found. His name is inscribed on the memorial wall at Runnymede Memorial in England.
