401 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND O’CONNOR, John George John was born on July 3, 1925 in Drumbo, Ontario. In June 1944, he enlisted in the Army during World War II at the age of eighteen in Woodstock, Ontario. John trained in Prince Rupert, British Columbia and Debert, Nova Scotia and was shipped to England in 1944 on the SS Mauritania. He served until the end of the war with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Holland. He was discharged on May 11, 1946 and returned to London, Ontario. John worked in Silverwood Dairies for over thirty years and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 540 in Lucan, Ontario. John passed away in January 2006. OKE (O’BRIEN), Elizabeth Alice Elizabeth was born in Zurich, Ontario on January 22, 1933. She enlisted in the Navy in 1950 as Able Seaman and served in the Reserves in Canada. She was honourably discharged in 1956. Elizabeth married Don and assisted with their lumber business and later in life with municipal matters. They raised their family in Zurich, Ontario. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Hensall Branch 408 for 35 years until her passing on July 25, 2018. OGLE, John Y. T. John was born on May 20, 1912 in Uckfield, England. Leaving the family home in Ireland, he arrived in Canada on July 4, 1918. He grew up in Toronto, joined the Toronto Police in 1934, and married Frances Kellow in 1937. He had two children when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 13, 1942. He finished training and joined the 433 Porcupine Squadron at Skipton-on-Swale, Yorkshire, as gunnery leader. Serving as air gunner on thirty missions in Halifax and Lancaster bombers, F/L John Ogle participated in the March 31, 1945 raid over Hamburg in which thirty Me 262 fighters created the largest jet combat of WorldWar II. OnApril 9, 1945, he fired at an attacking FW 190 Fighter, the fighter was hit and credited as a probable. This raid over Kiel was his last mission. He returned to Canada in September and was awarded the DFC. Following the war, John returned to his police career in Toronto. Two more children were added to the family. John retired from the Toronto Police in 1974. He died in his cottage at Fenelon Falls, on July 15, 1984. He was interred in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Toronto.
