397 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NEILANDS, Paul Harpur Paul was born on February 14, 1920, in Vancouver, British Columbia, the son of World War I Veteran Thomas Neilands. Paul was a member of the 2nd Battalion Reserves Westminster Regiment from 1939 to 1944 and also served in the National Selective Service in 1943. Paul enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1953 where he was promoted to the rank of corporal and pursued a career as a chef. He was discharged in 1970. Paul, his wife Alice, and seven children were stationed at RCAF Comox, Edmonton, White Horse, Centralia and Clinton. His love of Politics saw him serve on the Hensall Village Council as Counsellor and Reeve. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 468. Paul passed away on July 27, 1984. NICHOLS, Andrew “Percy” Percy was born on May 13, 1883 in McGillivray Township, Parkhill, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1916. He sailed on the SS Olympic in August 1916 and joined the 135th Battalion. Percy served in England and in France with the 102nd Battalion. In the hospital with diphtheria in 1918. Percy was promoted to Lance Corporal. He returned home on the SS Caronia and was discharged in February 1919. He then married MinnieYoung and worked as a mail carrier. Percy passed away on November 4, 1958 and was buried at the Parkhill Cemetery. NEWMAN, Glenn Thomas James Glenn was born in Little Current, Ontario on October 20, 1954. He enlisted in the Army on April 12, 1972 and served as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator in Canada. He was discharged on November 11, 1974. Glenn resided in Manitowaning, Ontario from 2008 until his passing on March 14, 2015.
