393 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MORSE, Frederick “Rick” Rick was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on August 26, 1957. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces on July 21, 1977 as an Administrative Clerk. As a support trade, he served with multiple Army, Air Force and Training Establishment units throughout his career which saw him posted to 4 Combat Engineer Regiment in Lahr, West Germany, where he was selected to participate in the 40thAnniversary of the Dieppe Raid in August 1982. Rick earned his Para Wings in 1985 and was posted to 2 Commando, Canadian Airborne Regiment and completed a six-month tour in Cyprus from August 1986 to February 1987. He also completed a six-month tour of Alert between June and December 1998. Attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, Rick took his commission in 2009 and serviced his last eight years as a Logistics Officer with such units as 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group and the Integrated Personal Support Centre (IPSC) Borden. Rick retired on August 26, 2017 after over forty years of service to Canada. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 270, Coldwater in 2018 and is their Bursary Chairman as well as the secretary/treasurer. He currently resides in Waubaushene, Ontario. MORTON, Edwin James Edwin was born on June 19, 1894 in McGillivray Township, Ailsa Craig, Ontario, the son of Jame and Emma Morton. Edwin was a telephone lineman when he enlisted in the Army on December 24, 1915 joining the 135th Battalion. His unit sailed on the SS Olympic in August 1916 to England. He was transferred to the 125th Battalion at Whitley. Edwin served in France with the 5th Division Sig. Co. He was promoted to Lance Corporal. Edwin was discharged in June 1919, he married Annie Wolfe, living in Windsor, Ontario. Edwin passed away on January 26, 1970 and is buried buried at Carlyle-Falkirk Cemetery. MORSE, Frederick George “Fred” Fred was born in Halton County, outside Burlington, Ontario, on July 30, 1933. With the August 1950 outbreak of hostilities in Korea, he joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and served with that unit from 1951 to 1954. Private Morse earned his paratrooper wings in 1952 and served a ten-month tour in Korea with the 3rd Battalion. The unit relieved the 1st Battalion in the fall of 1952 and was occupying Hill 355, “Little Gibraltar,” when the Korean War ended on July 27, 1953. Following his unit’s return to Canada in early 1954, Private Morse was discharged from the Garrison in Petawawa, Ontario. He was a former member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 163 in Hamilton, Ontario and a 35-year veteran of the Hamilton Fire Department. Fred passed away on August 30, 2020.
