365 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McINTYRE, Amos John Amos was born in the United States in 1875. He emigrated to Canada in 1891 and farmed near Thedford, Ontario, then married. Amos moved to Saskatchewan where he enlisted in the Army on September 22, 1917. He joined the No. 6 Forestry Draft. Amos served in England during World War I. He was fit for base duty at 44 years of age. He was discharged in May 1919. Amos passed away in 1953 and is buried at Pinehill Cemetery. McLACHLAN, John John was born in Erin Township, Ontario on February 25, 1894. Prior to joining up, John worked for Algoma steel in Sault St. Marie, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army with the 71st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Hillsburg, Ontario on September 22, 1915 and embarked for Great Britain on April 2, 1916. His Battalion was part of the Canadian Forestry Corps, tasked with providing lumber for the Allied war effort. On April 14, 1916, John was transferred to the 14th Battalion, Canadian Infantry which was stationed in France. While serving in France, on September 27, 1916, John was severely injured by shrapnel resulting in a broken right arm and fractured jaw. His injuries could not be treated in the field, so John was sent to the 1st Australian Military Hospital in Rouen, France. After several weeks, he was transferred to a hospital in London, England. He was invalided back to Canada from Liverpool, onApril 11, 1917, aboard HMHS Letitia, for further treatment. John was released from the army on May 10, 1918. He returned to farming in Hillsburg, Ontario, married Hope Smibert and then relocated to Westminster Township where he bought a farm and raised a family. John died on January 3, 1960 and was laid to rest in the Siloam Cemetery in London, Ontario. McINTYRE, Charles Henry Charles was born on November 20, 1884 in Thedford, Ontario. He was a graphite worker and married with three children. He enlisted inArmy on September 9, 1916 to serve in World War I. He had defective vision but was still sent for overseas service. Charles joined the 149th Battalion, 25th Reserve Battalion and also 4th Canadian Reserve. His unit sailed in March 1917 on the Lapland. He served in England and was discharged in 1919. Charles passed away on August 18, 1958.
