357 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McDONALD, James Alexander James was born in Sylvan, West Williams Township, Ontario on January 23, 1899. He enlisted in the Army on May 28, 1918 and trained at Camp Borden to serve in World War I. James had the rank of sapper. His unit (Canadian Engineers), sailed to England on August 15, 1918. He returned to Canada on March 19, 1919. James married Milverna Willert and they lived and raised their family in Thedford, Ontario. James passed away in May 1960 and is buried at Pinehill Cemetery. McFARLANE, James Duncan “Jim” Jim was born on December 11, 1897 in Oil City, Enniskillen Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on May 28, 1918, joining the 4th Reserve Battalion during World War I. He arrived in England on SS Bellerophon on August 15, 1918 with 1st Depot Battalion. He trained in Witley, England and was discharged in June 1919. Jim married May Springstead and they moved to Thedford, Ontario. He operatedWhite Rose Gas Station. He passed away in 1977 and is buried at Pinehill Cemetery in Thedford. McEACHERN, James Oscar James was born in Milton, Ontario on December 1, 1925. He joined the Canadian Army Reserve in during World War II in December 1942 at the age of seventeen with the 2nd (Res) Battalion Lorne Scots, P.D. & H. Regiment. He transferred to the RCNVR in December 1943 at the age of eighteen and served with HMCSYork, HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Restigouche, HMCS Niobe and HMS Turnstone, HMS Fledgling, HMS Caldwell, HMS Kestrel, HMS Gander and 803 (Seafire) Squadron at the rank of Aircraftsman Class 2. He served in Canada, on the High Seas, England, Scotland and Ireland and was discharged in December 1945. He received the War Medal 1939-1945, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. James worked for P.L. Robertson Fastener Co. for 48 years as a machinist, toolmaker and 22 years as toolroom foreman. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Branch 136 soon after the war ended. He served on the Santa Claus Parade Committee for a number of years. He was a member of St. Clair Masonic Lodge for 64 years and a 1972 Past Master. Jack married Gladys Hersenberger in 1949. They were married for 71 years and raised four children.
