339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LYSTIUK, Lloyd Joseph Lloyd was born on June 3, 1949 in Ottawa, Ontario and also lived in Three Rivers, Manitoba. Following his father and older brother, he enlisted in the Air Force on January 8, 1970. After basic training at CFB Borden and CFB Cornwallis, Lloyd was posted to Ottawa at CFB Rockcliffe and CFB Uplands. He spent six months in Alert where he was a member of Alert Radio and Television donating many hours of his spare time entertaining the personnel of Alert. He was discharged on October 17, 1976. Lloyd married and raised two children. He then spent 33 years working at National Grocers. He also worked as a bar steward for six years at The Royal Canadian Legion Winchester Branch 108 where he was a proud member and staunch supporter for sixteen years. Lloyd passed away on February 13, 2021. MacDONELL, Ranald Alexander Ranald was born on May 14, 1920 in Alexandria, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in Ottawa in 1942 during World War II. He was posted to St. John’s, Newfoundland (still a British colony at the time) in 1943, then posted to St. Hyacinthe, east of Montreal in 1944. He applied for Pacific Volunteer Duty in 1945 but with the end of the war, he was discharged in 1945. After the war, Ranald worked for the Northern Ontario Diamond Drilling Company and then joined the railroad, a radio and television repair company, and finally the Ministry of Natural Resources where he retired in 1985. Ranald married Elizabeth Goodwin in 1952 in Cochrane, Ontario and settled in North Bay, Ontario. They raised five boys. Ranald is currently enjoying retirement and celebrated his 101st Birthday at the Meadowbrook Retirement facility surrounded by fellow residents and some immediate family. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 North Bay. MacDONALD, Ralph Douglas Ralph was born in Hamilton, Ontario on November 30, 1954. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in Hamilton on September 1, 1972. He served in the Air Force for 33 years ending July 4, 2005. During that time, he was deployed to the Ismailia, Egypt for Peacekeeping duties from March to September 1972. He was posted to CFB Lahr, Germany from 1989 to 1994. He was one of the first Canadians deployed after the destruction of the Twin Towers in NewYork. Ralph was in charge of the Mobile Air Movements Section deployed with the A310 Airbus freighter/passenger aircraft supporting the war effort out of the UnitedArab Emirates. He retired from the Movements position in 1 Canadian Air Division Winnipeg, Manitoba at the rank of Master Warrant Officer. Ralph joined The Royal Canadian Legion Fort Garry Branch 90 in Winnipeg, Manitoba in October 2005 and transferred to the Edward MacDonald Branch 499 inAngus, Ontario inAugust 2006. Ralph is currently the President of the Edward MacDonald Legion after serving in several executive positions.
