337 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LUTTRELL, Earl James Earl was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on December 15, 1942. He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1962 and served with the RCR’s in Canada and in Continental Europe. When released from the Army, on June 9, 1965, earl worked for INCO Mining Company in the Sudbury area. He was a 36-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Onaping Falls Branch 503. Earl resided in Levack, Ontario from 1949 until his passing on July 23, 1996. For his service, Earl received the Special Service Medal. LYONS, William Sidney William was born on December 25, 1896 in Ivan Cottage, Kent, England. William came to Canada in 1909 as a Home Boy to work for the Slaughter family at the age of thirteen. He enlisted in the Army on December 9, 1915, joining the 149th Battalion. He sailed on the SS Lapland inApril 1917. William spent several months in England in hospital dangerously ill. Later he served in France with the 10th Canadian Troops 25th Battalion. William was discharged in April 1919 LYONS, William Alfred William was born in Burritts Rapids, Kingston, Ontario. He was working in Thedford, Ontario as a bank cashier in 1911. He enlisted in the Army on December 15, 1914 to serve inWorldWar I. His unit, ASC Reinforcements, landed in England in May 1916 on the Olympic. William was hospitalized with tonsilitis and diphtheria for two months at Shorncliffe Hospital. Lieutenant William Lyons returned to Canada as he was declared unfit for service and was discharged on March 17, 1917.
