323 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LIDDLE, Edward Campbell Edward was born in Cornwall on September 9, 1887 to Robert and Jessie Liddle. In 1894, the Liddle family purchased a farm in Prince Township just west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. At a young age he ran away from home not to return until 1917 to join the 227th Overseas Battalion in Sault Ste. Marie. He was then transferred to the 102nd Canadian Infantry. In October 1917, he received gun shot wounds to the face which eventually led to the loss of an eye. He was discharged in 1919. In 1926, he married Clara Armstrong from Belfast, Ireland. They had two girls. Edward served on the Empire Service League, Br. 25’s, (Sault Ste. Marie) newsletter during World War II. Edward passed away on December 8, 1952 in Sault Ste. Marie. LIDDLE, Goodman “Randall” Randall was born in Prince Township on March 8, 1909 to Robert and Jessie Liddle. The Liddle family lived on a farm in Prince Township just west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Randall received his education in Sault Ste. Marie and worked in many financial institutions in Ontario and Quebec. After World War II broke out, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, serving in Egypt, Africa and Canada. During the war, Randall married Ilay McConnel. After his discharge in 1945, he worked in the financial field, Algoma Steel and Customs Canada. Randall passed away in Sault Ste. Marie on March 7, 1996. LIDDLE, Ellis Walker Ellis was born in Prince Township on April 7, 1900 to Robert and Jessie Liddle. The Liddle family lived on a farm in Prince Township just west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Ellis started young on the farm until the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie just before World War I broke out. He joined the 51st Soo Rifles on September 6, 1917 and then joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Rifles in Sudbury and shipped out to France. In August 1918, he received a gun shot wound to his left hand and it had to be amputated. He was discharged in 1919 and returned to Sault Ste. Marie and then to Detroit, Michigan to marry Kathleen Dean. Ellis worked for Beatty Washing Machine Company in Michigan and Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie. He passed away on May 12, 1972 in Kitchener Waterloo.
