317 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEAR, William Henry William was born in Torquay, England on February 23, 1881. He arrived in Canada in 1950 residing in Thedford, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1915 and served with the Northamptonshire Regiment in England and in France during World War I. He was discharged on February 27, 1919. William passed away in 1970 and is buried at Pinehill Cemetery. LEES, Karl George Karl was born in London, England on September 22, 1898. He enlisted in Toronto December 2, 1915 in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force enlisting with the 124th Canadian Infantry Battalion. As a Canadian soldier, he sailed from Halifax on the SS Cameronia July 8, 1916 to England. In March 1917 his unit was sent to France and served at the western front with the 10th Battlion. He spent the remainder of the war in France and Belgium. He was present at the victories at Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele and others including the Hundred Days in 1918. Originally from England, Corporal Lees spent his leave at the home of his family in London. His brother Harry had been killed in action at Vimy Ridge in 1918. He wished to see his family. He was discharged at the Toronto Depot June 15, 1919.Because he joined at the age of eighteen, Karl fought in both World War I and World War II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 382 for ten years. LEE, Linwood Linwood was born on January 24, 1883 in McGillivray Township, Ailsa Craig, Ontario. He was the son of George and Mary Ann Lee. He was a single farmer when he enlisted in the Army on July 10, 1916 joining the 135th Battalion. He sailed on the SS Olympic to England in August 1916. At Witley, England, he transferred to the 125th Battalion and served in France in March 1918. Linwood was discharged on April 24, 1919 returning home to farm. He passed away in 1954 and is buried in the Brinley United Cemetery.
