309 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KOEBEL, Francis William “Frank” Frank was born in Linwood, Ontario on September 7, 1923 to Alexander John and Helen (Forwell) Koebel and had six siblings, Corita, Clarence, Catherine, Elmer, Genevieve, and Mary. On May 12, 1944 he joined the Army during World War II and was attached to the Highland Light Infantry. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe and was discharged on July 24, 1946. Frank married Margaret (Hug) and they had four children: Reg, Ron, Linda, and Judy. Frank joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530 Waterloo in 2002. He enjoyed his retirement by keeping busy playing music, investigating history and being an avid Military Memorabilia collector. Frank passed away on October 23, 2008 at the age of 86. His name has been inscribed on Plaque # 8 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. LAMB, Leslie Lionel Leslie was born in London, England on September 20, 1923. He and his parents, Frank and Beryl, came to Canada in the spring of 1924. He joined the Army during World War II on November 9, 1942 and spent three years in Nova Scotia as a gunner, defending his country. He was honourably discharged on November 21, 1945. He would spend the next three months at Veterans Hospital in London, Ontario, for treatment of his ear from the effects of firing the large gun every day. Then he returned home where he married Beatrice, his wife of 54 years. They had four children and he lived a very unremarkable life. His main hobby was a beer at the local pub with a friendly game of darts. He also enjoyed watching his favourite hockey team with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. He enjoyed being in his neighbourhood of Bernard Road and was liked by all who knew him. Leslie passed away peacefully on August 20, 2002. KROPF, Lloyd Alexander Lloyd was born in Kitchener, Ontario on January 2, 1921 to Christian and Barbara (Habermehl) Kropf along with Viola and Clarence. He served in the reserved from April 9 to May 19, 1942. He married Mary Brenner on April 18 and joined the regular army on May 20, 1942; was assigned to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and shipped overseas on June 5, 1943 to serve in World War II. He was discharged on January 12, 1946 with the rank of Craftsman and awarded the 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Lloyd worked at a garage in Kitchener as a mechanic then at Ontario Hydro, repairing their trucks and also ran his own service station. Lloyd and Mary had ten children: Linda, Judy, Larry, Keith, Gregory, Louis, Steve, Lorraine, Jim and Leonard. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50. Lloyd passed away on December 30, 1977 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener.
