307 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KOCHER, Clayton J. “Sonny” Sonny was born in Hesson, Ontario on August 5, 1932 to Lawrence Charles and Rosetta Mary (Klein). Clayton had fourteen siblings. On October 17, 1951, Sonny joined the Army with the Royal Canadian Regiment and after completing basic training, was shipped to Korea. He was released in September 1955 with an honourable discharge. He married Shirley (Foerster) and they operated numerous businesses over the years; namely Sonny’s Crane Rental, Sonny’s Sharpening as well as his own paradise, Presquile Camp on the French River. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 in 1979 and had 38 continuous years of service. Sonny passed away on October 1, 2018 in Sudbury at the age of 86 and is buried at St. Teresa Cemetery in Elmira. His name has been inscribed on plaque #9 on the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. KOCHER, Joseph Eugene “Joe” Joe was born in Mornington Township on August 16, 1921 to Lawrence Charles and Rosetta Mary (Klein). Joseph had fourteen siblings: Celestine, Harold, Floyd, Lorne, Patricia, Bernice, Clayton, Marjorie, Edward, Shirley, Orville, Douglas, Ronald and Garey. Joe joined the Army on March 18, 1942 with the Scots Fusiliers of Canada and served in Canada, United Kingdom, and Continental Europe during World War II. After the war was over, it took quite a while to get back to Canada and Private Joe Kocher was discharged on January 10, 1946. He married Bernice (Dahlmer) and they had seven children: Richard, Trudy, Catherine, Michael, Rosemary, Alan and Joseph. With his trade of tool and die maker, he worked at Sunar and Budd Automotive. He loved playing the bagpipes with the Royal Highland Scottish Fusiliers of Canada along with his brother, Doug. Joe was a twenty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530. Joseph passed away on February 11, 1981 and is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo. KOCHER, Floyd Francis Floyd was born in Hesson, Ontario on February 15, 1921 to Lawrence Charles and Rosetta Mary (Klein). He had fourteen siblings: Celestine, Joseph, Harold, Lorne, Patricia, Bernice, Clayton, Marjorie, Edward, Shirley, Orville, Douglas, Ronald and Garey. He served overseas during World War II with the Canadian Army. After the war, he worked at Sunar Industries until his retirement in 1984. Floyd married Marg (Goodwin) and they had two daughters, Janis and Cheryl. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion in 1959 and had accumulated 55 years of continuous service. He was also a member of the Linwood Rod & Gun. Floyd passed away at Heritage House in St. Jacobs on March 21, 2014 at the age of 89. He is interred at Saint Clements Roman Catholic Cemetery. His name has been inscribed on plaque #8 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall.
