293 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KENT, Harold Greydon Harold was born on September 8, 1925 in Richards Landing, a small village on St. Joseph Island, in Northern Ontario. On September 16, 1943, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as a member of the Air Crew. He graduated as a sergeant with his Air Gunner Badge in March 1945. He was discharged in May 1945 to the Air Force Reserve pending call up for service in the Pacific. His final discharge was in May 1946. When Harold returned to St. Joseph, he worked on his family’s farm, maple syrup business and lumber mill. He also worked as a lineman for the St. Joseph Island Municipal Telephone System, one of only a few independent telephone companies in Ontario. He also found time to marry his wife, Edith, and they raised five children. In 1961, he started his own construction company. Harold is a seventy-year charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374. KER, Charles Gordon Charles was born on January 4, 1913, in Fenwick, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in Hamilton, Ontario in July 1942 and served in Nova Scotia and in England. Charles met Vera and was married on September 30, 1943. When discharged in March 1946, the couple moved to Fenwick to start their family. Charles was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 613 for sixteen years. He passed away on July 18, 1982. KENT, William “Robert” Robert was born on February 4, 1893 in London, England, the son of Leonard and Grace Kent. Robert came to Canada in 1907 working for the Bartley family. He enlisted in the Army on December 22, 1915 in Arkona, Ontario. He arrived in England in March 1917 on the SS Lapland with the 149th Battalion, 25th Reserve A Coy. Robert was injured by a team of horses and spent four months in hospital. He came back to Canada on the SS Olympic and was discharged on December 14, 1918. Robert married Beatrice Page.
