289 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KELLER, Ralph William Ralph was born in Maryhill, Ontario on January 21, 1924 to Eugene Michael and Gertrude L. (Zettel) Keller. He had six siblings: Anne, Norma, Rainer, Geraldine, Clare, and Clayton. On March 20, 1943, Ralph joined the Army and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Service Corp and served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, and the Mediterranean Area during World War II. He was discharged on April 6, 1946. Ralph married Doris (Shilling) and they had two children, David and Chris. After the war, he worked at J.M. Schneider’s Meat and retired with 48 years of employment. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 in 1963 having 45 years of service. Ralph passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on July 26, 2008 at the age of 84. His name has been inscribed on Plaque #8 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. KEMP, George Ernest George was born on February 6, 1871 in London, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1912 living inArkona, Ontario. George had twenty years with the British Cavalry and was a bandman. He enlisted in the Army on December 6, 1915 in Arkona, Ontario joining the 149th Battalion. He was at Camp Borden, Ontario when the AAG discovered that George was overage. He had over a year of service and was discharged in January 1917. George and his family moved to Sarnia, Ontario and he passed away on March 24, 1952. KELLY, Dennis Dennis was born in Sudbury, Ontario on September 23, 1941. After the war, he with his family lived at Redbridge, Ontario. He joined the RCN in North Bay, Ontario on February 19, 1959 and served for thirty years in Halifax Home Port division and in Ottawa. He completed his basic training at HMCS Cornwallis and Radar Trades Training at HMCS Stadacona. He served ashore in Halifax and on five different ships, HMCS Chaudière, HMCS Fundy, HMCS Annapolis, HMCS Assiniboine and HMCS Athabaskan and two tours as an Ordinary Seaman Radar Plotter and Radar Technician reaching the rank of CPO1 (CWO). He was posted to NDHQ in 1983 and received Queen Commission as a Lt (N) in 1984. In Ottawa, he served with DMCS (Maritime Combat Systems) and DASP (Aviation Simulation and Photography) until retirement on February 22, 1989. He then joined the Public Service as an EL-7 again with DMCS as the Senior Radar Tech working in Gatineau. On his final retirement in 1996, he remained in Ottawa, periodically travelled the world, and made voluntary contributions to the story and history of British Home Children in Canada. Dennis has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1968 and is currently with Barrhaven Branch 641.
