279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND IRWIN, Dewitt Oscar Dewitt was born on October 10, 1885, in Ontario. Dewitt went overseas as Honourary Lieutenant withYMCA of the First Contingent then promoted later to captain. In February 1915, the unit was attached to the 10th Battalion in France. At the Battle of St. Julien, he was reported wounded and missing. Dewitt was later reported as being killed in action at the second Battle of Ypres on April 23, 1915. He is commemorated on the Menin Gates Memorial in Belgium. JACKSON, Ronald Clifford “Ron” Ron was born in Kingston, Ontario on January 10, 1942. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers on October 27, 1960. Basic training at the CFB Chilliwack, tour at CFB Petawawa, returning to Chilliwack for trades training then to 12 WKS COY Regina, three years in Fld Sqn in Germany. While there he visited Northern Ireland and met his future wife Maureen, returned in March 1966, and married. He was posted to 11 WKS COY in Victoria, BC where he spent five years before moving to CFB Winnipeg and Non Tech Wk SHP, later CE Section. He did two summer tours in CFS Alert 70/72, approximately five months. He was then posted to CFB London in 1976 and while there he did a six-month tour with UNDOF, HQ Damascus, Syria and the Golan Heights. He was posted to CFS Bermuda as SCEO for three years, returning to London. He was released from the Military on December 3, 1989 with the rank of MWO CM Tech. His medals are NATO with Bar, UNDOF, Peace Keeping Medal and CD with Bar. Ron retired with Maureen, and they live in London. Ron is a Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Victoria Branch 317 for the past eighteen years. JACK, Robert Barrie Robert was born on April 9, 1946 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He was sworn in to the RCAF on August 10, 1966 and did his basic training at RCAF Station St. Jean, Quebec, then RCAF Station Clinton, Ontario electronics school. He re-mustered to Medical Assistant and posted to RCAF Station Borden. Posting that followed were: National Defence Medical Centre; 3 Field Ambulance Calgary; Toronto Military Hospital (Sunnybrook); CFB Uplands Ottawa MIR as Cpl; CF Naval Station Masset Queen Charlotte Island as MCpl pharmacy tech; NDMC Ottawa as Sgt; United Nations Disengagement Force Golan Heights Israel; NDHQ WO IC MIR; HMCSYukon; CFB Baden-Soellingen Germany WO IC MIR; CFB Kingston Base Hospital as WO IC; CFRC Det Kingston, released in 1996. He was a Reservist at Regional Cadet Headquarters Central Region in Borden, Trenton, and Borden until his retirement in December 2010. Robert received several recognitions, Commander of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Special Services Medal Canada, Canadian Peace Keeping Service Medal, United Nations Disengagement Observer Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, Canadian Decoration with 3 Clasps, Service Medal of the order of St. John. Robert married his wife Kathryn Jack in May 1970 and they had two sons, Andrew and Christopher. Robert is an eight-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Owen Sound Branch 6.
