265 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOLE, Brinley “John” John was born on June 3, 1909, in Wales and immigrated to Canada in 1926. At the time John enlisted in the army at Kingston, Ontario in 1939 he was a lumber camp cook and so was assigned as a cook in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. He was deployed to England and then shipped to Sicily and Italy. His unit went through Italy to France, Belgium and to Holland. In England, he met and married his wife, Amy, in 1942. After his discharge in 1945, he moved to Toronto where he got a job at Massey-Ferguson. In 1946, he brought his wife and daughters over from England. In 1947, he became involved in The Royal Canadian Legion at Branch 527 in Toronto, where he was President for a few years. He moved his family to Georgetown in 1955 and kept his membership at Branch 527 for several years before joining Branch 120 in Georgetown. After retiring from MasseyFerguson, he joined the Corps of Commissionaires and worked at the Toronto International Airport for ten years. John passed away on September 5, 1988, at the age of 79. HOLMES, Dennis Henry Dennis was born in Yorkshire, England on May 25, 1948. He joined the Navy on October 15, 1963, at the age of fifteen. He served in the General Service and moved on to Subs. He served for twelve years being discharged on May 24, 1945. Dennis met his wife in Windsor and raised his family. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion and was Chairman on most of the Branch committees. He served as President for seventeen years. The Windsor Fire Department awarded Dennis for saving a lady’s life at the Branch. He received his Life Membership in 2003 and his Meritorious Service Medal in 2009. Dennis is retired and is a proud member of Legion Branch 255. HOLLINGSWORTH, Frank Frank was born on August 22, 1921 and lived in Newmarket, Ontario. He enlisted on June 27, 1944 with the Army serving with the RCAC in Canada and England being discharged on May 10, 1946. Frank was a school teacher and taught at Stuart Scott and JLR Bell Public Schools. He was a strong supporter of youth sports and the Town of Newmarket named an arena in his honour. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch Milton Wesley Branch 426, President in 1971 and sat with the Executive for six years. Frank passed away on April 20, 1992.
