243 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HART, Frank “Leslie” Leslie was born on March 22, 1917 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest son of William and Edith Hart. Leslie enlisted at the Wolseley Barracks, London, Ontario on July 10, 1941 with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. The Army changed his name to Frank, and he was transferred to Lethbridge, Alberta where he learned the mechanic’s trade. Leslie sailed on the Queen Mary for England in 1942. He served in Canada, England, Sicily, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany being discharged on January 19, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and 1939-1945 Volunteer Medal. Upon returning from the war, he married Marguerite Hastings on May 22, 1948 in Listowel and they had one daughter Gloria (Hart) Wilbee. In 1960, Leslie and Marguerite purchased a Texaco service station and restaurant in Mitchell, Ontario. The Harts retired in 1977. Leslie was a lifelong member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 156 Seaforth for 64 years receiving the fifty-year pin. He has two grandsons. Leslie passed away December 15, 2010, at the age of 93. HART, Maurice Herbert Maurice was born January 5, 1919, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was the second son of William and Edith Hart. Maurice enlisted at the Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario on July 2, 1940. Maurice joined the Queen’s Own Rifles in June 1941 while in England and later transferred to the Canadian Provost Corps (Military Police) in 1942. Maurice took part in the 1944 Battle of Normandy, DDay landings, on June 6. He served in Canada, England, France, Germany, and Holland being discharged on February 23, 1946. Maurice received the Defense Medal, 1939-1945 Star and Clasp, France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After the war, Maurice married Ilene Fossen in Alberta and raised six children. Maurice worked at Massey Ferguson in Killam, Alberta. He passed away in Killam, Alberta on July 10, 2014 at the age of 95. HART, Lloyd James Lloyd was born at home September 21, 1925, in Demaine, Saskatchewan. Lloyd was the youngest son of William and Edith Hart. He enlisted at the Wolseley Barracks, London, Ontario on April 3, 1943 with the Scottish Windsor Military Division. He served in Belgium and Holland. Wounded in Holland Lloyd was discharged in March 1946. Lloyd received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Upon returning home, Lloyd married Beulah Bowman in Kitchener, Ontario. After the war, Lloyd was the first employed at Maple Lane Dairy as a milkman making deliveries to homes. They had six children. He purchased a home and a grocery store in Baden, Ontario where Lloyd and Beulah worked side by side at the store and their large family helped out as well. Lloyd and Beulah retired to Kitchener. He was a lifetime member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 77 for 69 years. Lloyd passed away on April 27, 2019 at Freeport Hospital Palliative Care at the age of 93.
