227 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOOD, Edward R. “Ed” Edward was born in Kitchener, Ontario in 1918 to Edwin R. and Soleda May (Eby) Good along with Ruby, Evelyn, Helen, and Harold. DuringWorldWar II, he served in Canada as a second Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Artillery, training and instructing new recruits. In December 1945, he received an honourable discharge. Ed started the business of Edward R. Good Funeral Home in 1946. He also served as the Liberal MMP for Waterloo North from 1967 to 1977. Ed married Rhea Mabelle (Brown) and they had three sons: Paul, David, and John. In 1958, he joined The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 and accumulated 44 years of continuous service. Edward’s son Paul and co-owner of Jim Erb took over the funeral business in 1965 and managed it for 41 years. Ed passed away in Kitchener at the Grand River Hospital on March 28, 2002 at the age of 83 and is buried in Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, Ontario. Edward R. Good’s name has been inscribed on plaque #7 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. GORDON, Robert Ingram Robert was born in the village of Uhthoff in North Orillia Township, Ontario on September 26, 1922. He had nine brothers and sisters and was the youngest son born to William and Maryann Gordon of Uhthoff. Robert enlisted in the Army on November 24, 1942, completed Basic Training at #20 BTC Brantford. He transferred to RCE, and qualified as driver i/c III. He took advanced training at A2 Petawawa and was then shipped overseas on April 30, 1944, landing in Inverness, Scotland, where he boarded a train to England. Robert was discharged on February 28, 1946, returning home to Uhthoff, Ontario. He passed away on December 7, 2008. GOODING, Basil Daniel Basil was born on July 14, 1896 in Parkhill, Ontario, McGillivray Township, the son of Archibald and Margaret Gooding. Basil was a farmer and single when he enlisted in the Army on February 28, 1916 joining the 135th Battalion. The unit sailed on the SS Olympic in August 1916. He was transferred to the 125th Battalion at Witley. Basil served in France on December 6, 1916, wounded in 1917, left hand shrapnel at Vimy Ridge. He returned home on the HMTS Mauretania on June 9, 1919. Basil passed away on October 2, 1977 and buried at the Parkhill Cemetery.
