219 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GELLATLY, Edwin James Edwin was born in London, England on August 28, 1886 to Frederick and Edith (Sparrow) Gellatly along with brothers Arthur, Harold, Leslie, Sidney, Donald plus three sisters: Dorothy, Tessie and Elsie. Prior to World War I, Edwin was working as an Express Agent in Berlin, Kitchener, Ontario and was married to Lillian Beatrice with four children: Winnifred, Gordon, Edwin and Sydney. He was also very active with the 108th Regiment in Berlin when he went to the recruiting station on November 13, 1915 and joined the Army with the 118th Infantry Battalion. He sailed from Halifax aboard SS Scandinavian and arrived in Bramshott, England on February 6, 1917. Originally, he was posted with the 25th Reserve Battalion. He was awarded a Good Conduct Badge, promoted to 2nd Corporal and transferred to the Canadian Engineers on July 7, 1918. He then was shipped across the channel into France and posted with the 5th Canadian Engineers. On April 13, 1919, he was shipped back to England and then Canada. He was discharged on May 29, 1919. Edwin passed away on October 15, 1957 and is buried in the Elmsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Thomas, Ontario. GELLATLY, Harold John C. Harold was born in London, England on June 2, 1892 to Frederick and EdithAgnes (Sparrow). Prior toWorldWar I, Harold worked in manufacturing shoes and served in the Berlin (Kitchener) City Regiment, He married Pearl Irene (Eagle) and they raised eight children, Shirley, Douglas, Bruce, Gwendolyn, Audrey, James, Constance and Reginald. On October 26, 1915, Harold went to Galt and joined the Army. He was posted to the 18th Battalion. Shortly after arriving in England, he was promoted to S/Sgt. on August 14, 1916 and on March 25, 1919 he was promoted to Sergeant Major. Harold was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his contributions to the war effort. He was granted a discharge on August 31, 1920. He worked at Onward Manufacturing for 34 years. Harold was a member of the 18th Battalion Association and The Royal Canadian LegionWaterloo Branch 530, but mainly Kitchener Branch 50, where he was Past President in 1955-1956 and secretary for 35 years, plus he was Zone C2 Commander, plus District C Commander, plus chairman of the K-W Poppy Fund and he was referred to as Mr. Legion. Harold passed away on September 19, 1979. GELLATLY, Gordon Frederick “Gord” Gord was born in Ontario on August 6, 1912 to Edwin and Lillian (Carter) Gellatly along with Edwin, Sydney, Walter, Winnifred, Lillian, Olive and Betty. He joined World War II in 1942 and was stationed at Camp Ipperwash, Canada and was released in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant Major. He then obtained a job at J. M. Schneider Meat and retired in 1977 as Poultry Commodity Manager. Gord married Audrey McIntyre and they raised two girls, Judith Ann and Susan Jean. On February 15, 1978, Gord passed away as a result of a heart attack and is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario.
