217 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GARRETT, Roscoe Lyle Roscoe was born at home on the farm in Zealand, Ontario on November 12, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in December 1941 joining the 5th Field Company of the Royal Canadian Engineers going to England in July 1943. They would be part of the European invasion. They landed at Juno Beach on D-Day. For the rest of the war, Roscoe and his regiment cleared mines and built Bailey Bridges throughout France, Holland and Germany. He was in Germany when the war ended and remained there and in Holland until the end of that summer then returned to England where they turned a Canadian hospital into a university dormitory. He returned to Kingston and in February 1946 was discharged and returned home in Zealand. Before leaving England, he met Brenda Martin, who he eventually. Roscoe remained on the homestead and farmed, then took a job at Sharbot Lake Provincial Park doing maintenance and security until he retired. They moved to Perth in 2010 and Roscoe moved to Perth Community Care in August 2014 and remained there until his death on April 21, 2015. He was a 27-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sharbot Lake Branch 425, serving as President between 1996 and 1997. GELLATLY, Donald Donald was born in London, England on December 1, 1916 to Leslie and Lillian (Eagle) Gellatly along with Betty. Donald served his country during the WorldWar II years in the British Army. He married Helen (McCullough) and they had one son, Ralph. They immigrated to Canada, ending up in Kitchener, Ontario where he found work in the rubber industry. In 1962, they up and moved to Texas. Donald passed away on August 18, 1999 and is buried in Willis, Montgomery, Texas. Donald’s father Leslie served in World War I in the British Forces and uncles Harold and Edwin served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. DuringWorldWar II, his cousins James Gellatly and Shirley (Knack) Gellatly served in Canada. His Uncle Harold and Cousin James were members of The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50 and Cousin Shirley, a member of Waterloo Branch 530. GELLATLY, Arthur Ernest Arthur was born in Peckham, England on February 5, 1899 to William Frederick and Edith Agnes (Sparrowe) Gellatly along with Edwin, Theresa, Dorothy, Elsie, Harold, Sidney, Leslie and Frederick. At the outbreak of WorldWar I, Arthur joined the British Army and was assigned to the Military Foot Patrol, a position he held until he was discharged in March 1920. Arthur immigrated to Canada in 1923 where he met and married Violet Cole; they settled in Hamilton, Ontario. Arthur passed away on January 14, 1975 and is buried inWhite Chapel Memorial Gardens in Ancaster, Ontario.
