77 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, John Alexander John was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia in 1920. He was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He retired from Camp Ipperwash. He was active in Legion Affairs as a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Thedford Branch 278. John passed away on April 25, 1989. BROWN, Leonard Frederick “Len” Len was born in London, England on January 30, 1916. Following World War I his family came to Canada. On March 21,1941, Len joined the Army’s 2nd Battalion Toronto Scottish Regiment, non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada duringWorld War II. Upon completion of training he enlisted to the Canadian Army 2nd Cdn. A.A. Regiment (Mob) 17th Anti-Tank. Len was sent overseas and was wounded by shrapnel to the head during combat. In June 1945, he was a bombardier with 1 Canadian Reception Depot and with 4 Canadian Repatriation Depot in 1946. Len served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Sergeant Leonard Brown was discharged on September 18, 1946. His awards are as follows: 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Len joined The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Albert Branch 382 in 1984 and filled many positions during his twelve years there, such as membership, treasurer, building committee, 1st VicePresident and on the Executive Committee. He was awarded a Life Membership in 1988. BROWN, John Sidney John was born in Watford, Ontario on December 6, 1888. He married Heurietta Williams on May 10, 1911 and they had two children, Bernice and Allan. He enlisted in the Army in Petrolea during World War I in April 1916 and left for overseas with the 70th Battalion. After training in Shorncliffe, England, the battalion was broken up into drafts and sent to France, Private Brown being placed with the 18th Battalion. On September 15, 1916, John was killed in action in France.
