483 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WONG, Henry Albert Henry was born on November 3, 1919 in London, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army with the Chatham Kent Regiment. He served during World War II with the British Intelligence for Covert Mission in Pacific Theatre in 1944 as a Transportation, Weapons Instructor. Henry is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 643 Flight Lieutenant David Hornell VC. WOODS, George Arthur George was born on April 7, 1890 in Surrey, England, the son of Lucy (Mitchell) and John Woods. The family immigrated to Canada in 1894, and by 1914 lived in Coldwater, Ontario. George enlisted in the Army during World War I in Coldwater with the 157th Overseas Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, on February 12, 1916. He was 25 years old and single. Private Woods sailed to England on the SS Cameronia, arriving on October 28, 1916. Within a month, he joined his frontline unit in France, the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion. On May 3, 1917, during an attack near Vimy, Private Woods was reported as “missing after action”. He was later reported “presumed to have died on or since May 3, 1917.” Private George Woods is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial in France. WOOD, Harry Hubbard Harry was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario on December 5, 1920. He was working at Ebert’s Furniture Factory and as a grocery clerk when he enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Regiment on January 6, 1940. He was serving in the 3rd Canadian Training Centre for dispatch riders. Harry and a fellow passenger were involved in a motorcycle accident while off duty and Harry died on April 9, 1945.
