479 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILLAUGHAN, William Abel William was born on May 7, 1889 in Durham, Ontario. On February 4, 1916, he enlisted with the Army during World War I and served with the 160th Battalion overseas. William was transferred to Special Service on October 2, 1916. Upon discharge, William returned to Tobermory where he farmed. WILLIAMS, George Edward George was born in Paddington, Surrey, England on September 3, 1879. He was a miller in Tillsonburg with a wife and three children when he enlisted in the Army on October 13, 1915. He served with the CEF 3rd Battalion in France during World War I. Within a year, Sergeant Williams was killed in service during the Battle of the Somme on October 8, 1916. WILLBEE, Jack Vincent Jack was born in Mount Albert on November 28, 1922, to Reginald and Marjorie Willbee. He went to Mount Albert Public School and the was a member of the Young Men’s Bible Class when he enlisted on April 18, 1941 during World War II. Jack joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in the role of Warrant Officer Class II and served in England with 261 RAF Squadron. The Squadron transferred to northern India in January 1943 where it began ground attack operations against targets in Burma. He was killed in action flying in a Hurricane IIB, HL997 of No 261 Sqn. Flight Sergeant Willbee was reported missing and presumed dead February 25, 1943. His name is engraved on the Singapore Memorial - Column 430.
