477 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILKINS, William J. “Bill” Bill was born in Montreal, Quebec on June 21, 1938. He enlisted in the Army on September 21, 1954 with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He received the UNEF Medal (Egypt 1956 to 1957), ONUS (Belgian Congo 1962 to 1963) and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration (CD) with Bar. In 1967 he served on the CAF Motorcycle Display Team which toured Canada from May to September Centennial Year Celebrations. His trade was a Group 3 Signals Electrician. Bill remustered in 1974 to RSASC as a Group 3 Safety Supervisor. He was discharged in September 1978. Bill then worked as an Operations Manager and Purchasing Agent for a local welding supplier and is now retired. Bill was elected to VicePresident to Ontario Command serving two terms from 2001-2005. He is a fiftyyear member of The Royal Canadian Legion North Bay Branch 23. WILLAUGHAN, Harry Burgess Harry was born onAugust 12, 1880 in Durham, Ontario. He enlisted with the Army on December 29, 1915 during World War I and served with the 160th Battalion until that unit broke up and then he served with the 2nd Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles. He served in England and Europe. He was wounded in action and died from his wounds on October 10, 1918 in England. His family received the “Death Penny”, a memorial piece given to the family of soldiers that were killed at War. Harry is buried in Manchester Southern Cemetery in Lancashire, United Kingdom. WILKINSON, Gordon Lea Gordon was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 7, 1921. Though he was born in Manitoba, Warrant Officer Wilkinson was referred to in the Tillsonburg News as a “local boy”. While serving as a wireless operator/air gunner with the Royal Canadian Air Force with 206 Squadron Royal Air Force, his plane failed to return from a huge bombing raid to Bremen, Essen and Hamburg. His plane was part of the 3rd “1000 Plane Raid June 26, 1942”.
