459 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WARD, David Sr. David was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 14, 1894. He immigrated to Canada from Scotland and joined the Army with the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. His pay at war time $15 per month. He served in England, France, Germany, and Belgium during World War I. He was discharged on September 17, 1919. While in France (St. Pol), he met his future wife Marie. They were married 65 years and had ten children –of whom five boys and one girl served in the military. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served in training section. David was an avid soccer player and was involved in the game as player, coach and official for a lengthy period. He worked in City of Ottawa as street car operator, the Ottawa Citizen as a printer, and later joined Federal Government. David passed away on May 8, 1971. WARD, James William “Jim” Jim was born in Ottawa, Ontario on April 4, 1923. He enlisted with his brother David and served with the Service Corps in England, Germany, France, and Belgium during World War II. After his discharge from the Army, Jim decided to join the Federal Government where he worked for the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys. He stayed with the Government until his retirement. Jim was an avid photographer and film projectionist. He had his own library and worked for a time with Crawley Films. He was often seen providing outdoor movies for the neighborhood kids. Jim passed away on October 18, 2017 at the age of 93. WARD, George Earl George was born in Ottawa, Ontario on November 11, 1927. In 1950, he enlisted with 30 FD Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. The Bytown Gunners were responsible for performing the 21 Gun Salutes to all visiting Dignitaries who visited Parliament. George rose through the ranks of a young officer to Commanding Office with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also held a government job in a supervisor capacity with the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys. George was an avid curler and played on Senior Provincial Team representing Ontario.
