457 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WARD, Daniel Daniel was born in Ottawa, Ontario on February 2, 1933. As a young man, Dan wanted to follow his brothers into the military. He enlisted in the Navy and was soon on his way to the Korean Conflict on HMCS Haida. In one crossing of the Atlantic, Dan had to be transferred to a Hospital ship with life threating health problem. He later returned to service on the Haida and the Korean War. Upon discharge, Dan worked in the mine in Sudbury, Ontario and later “Stelco” in Hamilton where he had a long career with the Steel Company. In retirement, he volunteers for Parks Canada as a Guide on HMCS Haida which is docked in Hamilton and has been declared a Heritage site. WARD, David Percy David was born in Ottawa, Ontario on February 16, 1955. He joined the military in the middle of 1970 as Officer Cadet and into his enlistment entered into the Army’s Medical Corps where he went on to McGill University and graduated from the dental program. After finishing his Military Service, he retired and ran a successful dental practice in British Columbia. WARD, David John Jr. David was born in Ottawa, Ontario on May 11, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in September 1939 and was sent overseas during World War II. He served in Canada, England, Germany, the Middle East and the United States of America with the Army Service Corps, RCEME. He stayed in the military for over 35 years. He got his mechanics license after retirement and had his own repair business. He later worked for Banker Dispatch looking after maintenance of their equipment and vehicles. He was a career soldier and lived for the military. David was a wealth of experience and knowledge. He travelled the world and never lost contact with his French roots. He was fondly known as “Sarge”. David passed away at the age of 93 on September 10, 2014.
