453 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WALKER, Herbert Wilfred Kenneth “Ken” Ken was born in Longueuil, Chambly, Quebec on April 16, 1927, to Herbert and Annie (Atkinson) Walker. During World War II, he was with the RCSS Signal Corps. Ken worked at HiramWalker’s & Sons for 37 years, and retired at age fifty seven. Ken passed away at 77 years of age on March 3, 2005, leaving behind his wife Edna and four children, Elizabeth, Linda, Ken and Jim. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Riverside Branch 255. WALLINGTON, Spencer Spencer was born on April 27, 1913 in Vienna, Ontario. He was married with a young daughter when he left his position as a section man for the railroad to enlist in the naval reserve duringWorldWar II. Previously serving on HMS King George V, he transferred to the Corvette HMCS Shawinigan in September 1944. While on patrol near Newfoundland, the ship was fatally torpedoed by a German submarine. Spencer was killed in the line of duty on November 24, 1944. WALLER, James Harry James Harry Waller was born in Coldwater, Ontario on December 14, 1892, the son of Harry and Kate (Colley) Waller. On February 21, 1916, James enlisted in Orillia with the 157th Overseas Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was 24 years old and single. Private James Waller sailed on the SS Cameronia, arriving in England on October 28, 1916. After training in England, he landed in France and joined his frontline unit, the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion (Western Ontario Regiment), on November 29. On April 11, 1917, during the battle at Vimy Ridge, Private Waller suffered a severe gunshot wound to the knee and was evacuated to the 5th London General Hospital in England. On May 29, he died of an aneurysm resulting from that wound. Private James Harry Waller is buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England.
