447 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND VAIR, James Alexander James was born in Owen Sound, Ontario on October 18, 1913 to William George Vair and Rhoda (Miller) Vair. James married Norma Elizabeth Trainor and they resided in London, Ontario prior to his enlistment in the Navy on August 5, 1941 during World War II. James was a crew member of HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Niobe and HMCS Athabaskan, which was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel, following a battle with enemy craft. James was leading Steward and had been a member of the Athabaskancrew from November 1943 until April 29, 1944. He had also served as Steward on the Steamer Manitou, out of Owen Sound for several years prior to enlisting for the “duration of hostilities”. James was listed as Missing in Action in the English Channel until it was officially recorded as “Presumed Dead” on July 13, 1945. He left his wife and two children (Norma Jean Vair and William James Vair) in Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island, Ontario to mourn his passing. VANBUSKIRK, Eugene Gerald Eugene was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 6, 1921. He enlisted with the Army and served during World War II. Eugene was very proud to serve his country. He resided in Hamilton and in Toronto. Eugene passed away on October 5, 1993. He is loved and missed by all who knew him. VAN DEN BOSSCHE, Mark Julius Mark was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario on December 3, 1964. He enlisted with the Regular Force on June 16, 1983. Mark served on various ships on both coasts in Canada and the High Seas. He was in the Regular Force for twenty years and nine years with the Reserve. His proudest achievement was serving three years as Captain on HMCS Prevost. Mark was discharged on November 12, 2012, retired as a Lieutenant Commander and settled in London, Ontario. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Vimy Branch 145 for eleven years.
