443 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TREVAIL, Leslie John “Les” Leslie was born on August 12, 1919 in Bexleyheath Kent, England. He enlisted with the Royal Navy Marine Commando, Rank Corporal in February 1940 and was discharged in March 1946. He served in the Middle East from 1941 to 1943, Far East from 1943 to 1944, Europe, Normandy France, Belgium, D-Day in 1944, V.E. Day in 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197 for 56 years. Leslie passed away on March 20, 2010. TURNER, Frank Ralph Frank was born in Peterborough, Ontario on April 25, 1911. On August 14, 1940, he enlisted in the Army during World War II with the 1st Lincoln Welland Unit, the Kent Regiment, CASF and served in Canada, England and Northwest Europe. He was qualified as a Driver Mechanic, Carrier. Frank landed in France on July 25, 1944. He fought in the Battle of the Scheldt in October and November 1944. He helped to liberate Berge-Op-Zoom in the Netherlands on October 27, 1944. Frank was discharged on September 7, 1945 and went to work for the Department of Highways. He also owned and operated a Variety Store in Thedford, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Thedford Branch 278 for 29 years. Frank passed away on November 2, 1974. TURNER, Edmund Baker Edmund was born on February 17, 1913 in Surbiton, a suburb of London, England. Edmund immigrated to Canada in 1922 and in 1924 the family moved to Niagara Falls. He was a sportsman and worked as a silverware buffer before enlisting to the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 24, 1943. Edmund was discharged on May 4, 1945. Upon returning home from England, he became a certified electrician rising to engineer/installer of gas production factories in Indiana, Mexico, Ohio, Ala, Cape Kennedy, KY, Puerto Rico, Pa for Linde Air. Edmund passed away on February 12, 1993 and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 479.
