439 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND THOMPSON, Kenneth Kenneth was born in Toronto, Ontario, on March 11, 1919. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on May 23, 1942 later transferring to The Royal Regiment of Canada. His son, Kenneth Jr., was born just prior to his being deployed overseas. His service during World War II brought him to the United Kingdom, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Upon his discharge on January 9, 1946, he held the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He returned to Canada nearly eight months after VE Day. When he returned, he resumed his former employment with the S.A. Armstrong Company where he worked until he retired. At that time, he held the position of quality control inspector. Kenneth passed away on August 10, 2003. TOSH, George Hartley George was born in Almonte, Ontario on June 23, 1925. Upon graduating High School, he saw an ad in the Ottawa Journal which said, “Join the Army and we will send you to University”. He was accepted into the army on August 10, 1943. After basic training, George attended Queen’s University. He was shipped to Europe in the fall of 1944, then joined the Essex Scottish in Belgium. His first battle was at the Hochwald Forest in Germany. From there he was involved in a second battle in Xanten, Germany and a third in Groningen, Holland. When the war in Europe ended, he joined the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders as part of the Occupation Forces, performing guard duty in Varel, Germany. In July 1946, he returned to Canada. The department of Veterans Affairs provided funding to continue his studies at Queen’s University. He graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He was then hired by Ford Motor Company of Canada where he worked for more than forty years. George passed away on December 19, 2012. THOMSON, Bruce Bruce was born in Bosanquet Township, Thedford, Ontario on November 2, 1892. He enlisted in the Army during World War I and served in France until his discharge in 1918. Bruce returned home and never married. He was employed at the Thedford Post Office. Bruce passed away on September 15, 1949.
