433 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TASKER, Malcolm Stanworth Malcolm was born in Kelowna, British Columbia on May 2, 1928. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1946, was commissioned in 1961, and retired as a Squadron Leader in 1978. As a young aircraftman with 426 Squadron, Malcolm loved his many postings at northern bases. During the Korean War, he was a crew member on flights supporting UN operations, transporting supplies and troops. Malcolm served at 1 Air Division HQ in Metz, France from 1955 to 1958, and he was part of a UN peacekeeping mission in India/Pakistan in 1965-66. He was CO of 3 AMU Uplands in 1972 to 1973, worked at NORAD from 1973 to 1976, and served at NATO HQ in Belgium in 1977-78. After retiring from the Royal Canadian Air Force, Malcolm worked as a civilian with DND, leading the military aid program with the Turkish Air Force from 1979 until his retirement in 1991. Malcolm passed away on October 9, 2018. He and his wife Rhoda were married 68 years. They had five children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including the great-grandson he never got to meet who was named Malcolm in his honour. TEASDALE, Kenneth “Ken” Kenneth was born onApril 2, 1934 in Patterdale, England. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force on June 18, 1952 and trained as an Airframe Mechanic. He was assigned to No. 64 Group, C.R.C., Royal Air Force, Rufforth, Yorks and later posted to Cardiff, Wales and then to Northern Ireland for two years and after, posted to Middleton St. George, County Durham, England. While posted in Northern Ireland, he was a member of the Honour Guard in Belfast for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Phillip. This is notable as it was the Queen’s First Official visit away from England following her coronation. On June 17, 1955, Kenneth was transferred to Reserve Class. In 1957, Ken and his wife Shirley immigrated to Canada and had two children. Ken worked for Canada Post and Shirley for the Ontario Government. They eventually retired to the Bruce Peninsula where they now live. Ken has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202 Lion’s Head for the past eleven years. TATE, Neil Neil was born in Stouffville, Ontario on December 1, 1934. He enlisted in the Air Force on June 7, 1957 and served with 2 Fighter Wing (Fighter Pilot), 430 Fighter Squadron (F-86 Saber Jet) in Grostenquin, France. He was a flying instructor at Advanced Flying School (T-33 Silver Star) from 1959 to 1964 in Gimli, Manitoba. Neil was discharged on August 20, 1964.
