409 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SMITH, Kenneth Wesley Kenneth was born in Delhi, Ontario on July 19, 1923. He was living in Tillsonburg with his mother when he enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1942. He fought in World War II with the Highland Light Infantry that landed on Juno Beach, June 6, 1944. Unfortunately, he was to be killed in action while in Holland during the Rhineland campaign which was designed to reach the Rhine river. Kenneth died exactly three years to the day he had enlisted on March 31, 1945. SMITH, William Martin William was born in Petrolia, Ontario on January 29, 1914. He enlisted with the Navy on March 19, 1943. William served as an engine room artificer and Chief Petty Officer during World War II. He worked in the Halifax Harbor on HMCS Hunter, HMCSYork, HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Scotian, HMCS Star and HMCS Peregrine. William was discharged on December 10, 1945 and worked as a firstclass pipefitter at Canadian Oil and Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Ontario. William passed away on March 24, 1988. SMITH, Thomas McGregor Thomas was born in Springfield, Elgin Co, Ontario, on February 8, 1887. He lived near Culloden, Ontario and was a Steam Engineer when he enlisted with the Army on July 17, 1915. He served with CEF 10th Battalion during World War I. Private Smith was killed in action on April 9, 1917, the opening day of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
