403 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SIMON, Wilfred J. Wilfred was born in Kitchener, Ontario on September 27, 1918. Before enlisting with the Army, he played professional hockey. He enlisted in the Army with the Regiment Unit 1 District Depot and RCA 63 Battery on January 8, 1942. He served in the United Kingdom, France and Germany during World War II at the rank of L/Sgt. Wilfred was discharged on February 16, 1945. He returned home and started a family taking a job in a Brewery Company in Kitchener. He received medals such as: Distinguished Service Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 19391945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and Mentioned in Dispatches. Harry passed away on August 26, 1975. SINCLAIR, Albert Edward Albert was born in Islington, Ontario on October 7, 1896. He received his draft letter to report to the 1st Depot Battalion in Toronto for a medical examination. Upon passing his medical, Edward joined the military with the Royal Canadian Dragoons, 1st C.O.R. on May 8, 1918 to serve in World War I. Albert was hospitalised on June 4, 1918 with tonsillitis. The military was starting the demobilization of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and Edward was discharged on December 23, 1918. Albert had one sister, Cora, and he was married to Dorothy (Flood) and they had three sons: Albert, Jack and Donald. He worked for the Economical Mutual Insurance Co. as a supervisor in their Postal Department. Albert was a very active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530. He took sick at work and was pronounced dead at the St. Mary’s Hospital on July 8, 1971. Albert Edward Sinclair’s name has been inscribed on plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. SIMPSON, Ross Oliver Ross was born in Kitchener, Ontario on July 23, 1922 to Charles and Matilda Simpson. He grew up with seven siblings: Evelyn, William, Ruth, Verna, Charles Jr, Violet and Mary Jane. Ross attended Sudaby School and later, KitchenerWaterloo Collegiate for his education. In January 1943, Ross joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and became part of the 227th Squadron and took his training in Alberta. He was later stationed in Yorkshire England, returning to Canada in January of 1946, earning the rank of Warrant Officer II. Ross married Ruth Emma Shantz and they had one daughter, Lois Virginia, who now lives in Alberta. Ross enjoyed a career at Burns Meat Packers working in the office and still lives in Kitchener. Ross’ hobbies include square dancing, swing bowling, carpet bowling, sandlot baseball and watching hockey.
