389 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SANDERSON, Russell Eugene Russell was born on September 4, 1925 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the youngest of eight children born to Arthur and Janet. He enlisted in the Army with the Royal Highland Regiment in 1942. In September 1944, he joined a Scout platoon of the Black Watch outside Antwerp. When World War II ended, Russell was in Groningen, Holland. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Niagara Falls to join the OPP and then Niagara Regional Police and the EMO. Russell passed away on February 10, 2016. SARGENT, Kenneth Wilfred Kenneth was born in Newmarket, Ontario on August 7, 1917. He enlisted in April 1944 and worked as an oiler in the Merchant Navy on the High Seas during World War II until his discharge in April 1946. After returning home, he worked at Office Specialty as an upholsterer for several years, eventually opening his own private business. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Wesley Branch 426. Kenneth passed away on February 19, 1993. SANDERSON, Vera Jean Vera was born on August 20, 1915 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Halifax during World War II. The Corps was a non-combatant branch of the Canadian Army. Most served in roles such as secretaries, mechanics and cooks. After the war, Vera returned to Niagara Falls and was employed at Woolworth’s Variety Store until she moved to Niagara Falls, NY USA with her husband. Vera passed on July 21, 1989.
