375 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RICHARDSON, Robert W. Robert was born in Arthur, Ontario on May 6, 1916, to Mary Beula and Rev. William George Richardson. He received his schooling in Waterloo, Ontario at Alexandra Public School and Kitchener and Waterloo High School. He had one sister Mary Ruth. Growing up, Robert enjoyed playing badminton and tennis. Williams’s father, Reverend Richardson, died when Robert was fourteen and his mother remarried to Alistair McIntyre. Robert worked at Dominion Life before the war as an Assistant Treasurer. He enlisted in July 1941, with the Royal Canadian Air Force and quickly worked his way up the ranks. While stationed in Newfoundland, as part of Patrol Convoy Coverage on August 5, 1943, Warrant Officer Robert Richardson was killed in a flying accident overseas in Torbay. He is buried in Plot 1, Row 4, Grave 30 at the Gander War Cemetery in Newfoundland, Canada. He is gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. RICKERBY, Francis Derek “Rick” Rick was born in London, England on January 24, 1932. At age fourteen, Rick was conscripted as a Bevin Boy and worked in the coal mines in the United Kingdom during the 1940’s. At the age of seventeen, he volunteered to serve in the military. On August 16, 1949, Rick enlisted with the Royal Navy and did his basic training on HMS Royal Arthur then posted onto the HMS Victorious to become a certified Seaman. In February 1950, Rick was posted to HMS Loch Alvie, Destroyer where he quickly advanced to the position of Able Seaman and Gunner after training on a 4.7-caliber naval gun in Portsmouth. Between 1952 and 1954, he served in the Far East as a diver on the mine sweeper HMS Maenad checking the side of ships for mines and training for submarine crew rescues. In August 1954, Rick was posted to the Chatham Barrack where he worked as staff for the Captain of the Dockyards. Rick was released from the Navy Reserves and in December 1959 enlisted with the local paratroopers in Romford, England where he did eleven jumps. Rick was discharged from The Territorial Army, 10 BN Parachute Regiment on December 28, 1961. RICHEY, Robert Edwin Robert was born in Hollymount, Ireland on August 26, 1889. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and was working on a farm near neighboring Springfield. On May 16, 1916, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force Oxford’s Own 168th. He served in France during World War I. On May 5, 1917, Robert died at 42 Clearing Stations near Amiens, France from wounds suffered.
