371 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND REID, Russell Scott Russell was born in Belleville, Ontario on May 6, 1961. On March 15, 1979, he enlisted with the Army. Russell spend most of his career in Petawawa, Ontario, but also served with 1HQ & Sigs Sqn Calgary, Alberta from 1980 to 1986; CFB Kingston from 1986 to 1991; 2 Service Battalion from 1991 to 1992 in Petawawa; 427 Squadron from 1992 to 1995 in Petawawa; 2 Service Battalion from 1995 to 1996; CMED from 1996 to 2000 in Petawawa; 2 Sve Battalion from 2000 to 2004; CFB Petawawa, ON where he retired after 25 and one half years of service. He was discharged on August 24, 2004. Russell is a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72 in Pembroke, Ontario. RENWICK, Francis Melvin Francis was born in the Township of Howick, Ontario on October 7, 1896. He enlisted with the 161st Huron Battalion at Wroxeter, Ontario on March 21, 1916. Francis was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, on April 18, 1917. He is buried in Barlin, France. He received the British War Medal and Victory Medal. REIDEL, Michael Albert “Mike” Mike was born on December 30, 1921 in St. Clements, Ontario to Eugene and Elizabeth (Beaupre). He had eleven siblings: Florence, Joseph, Vincent, Raymond, Gerald, Jerome, Bertilla, Dorothy, Edward, Cletus and Genevieve. In 1942, at 21 years of age, he joined the Air Force during World War II. During his service in England, Flight Officer Reidel piloted four different bomber aircrafts –Wellington, Stirling, Halifax and Lancaster Bombers – and flew raids into Germany, as well as participating in Maritime Patrols. He completed his service in 1945. In 1948, he helped build the Waterloo/Wellington Airport in Breslau along with Garth Schmidt, Norm Schneider, Robert Dietrich and others. He was also the president of the Flying Club. Mike was a Civilian Flight Instructor to the Commonwealth Air Training Program in Centralia, Ontario in 1956-1957. Mike was married to Patricia (Kewley) and they had two children: Deborah Ann and Richard James. He enjoyed flying, model building and mostly golf! Mike was a proud member of Kitchener Legion Branch 50 for thirty years and served as their president in the mid-1960’s. He passed away on March 18, 1991 and is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario.
